Fire Safety Consultant
Description

DRLC, Authorising Engineers, are seeking to employ a highly skilled Fire Safety Consultant with experience of working within the UK Healthcare sector. Applicants will have a thorough understanding of UK Fire Safety Regulations together with a working knowledge of Health Technical Memorandum 05 – “Managing healthcare fire safety” - series of guidance documents.

The person will be a member of the South Team – currently comprising of one person with the intention to grow the team in 2025 which covers the south of England. There is another Fire Safety Team – the North Team – covering the north of England.

Excellent communication skills and an ability to interpret large quantities of information are required, together with a willingness to work both automatously and as part of a team. The successful applicant will work as a member of DRLCs current Fire Safety Consultant team, providing client services primarily in the south of the UK.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive audits of health care providers Fire Safety management systems against national guidance and criteria
  • Provide comprehensive audit reports on Fire Safety together with risk-based action plans for improvement
  • Provide an initial point of contact for clients with Fire Safety queries
  • In collaboration with a Health Trust’s Fire Safety Team, work with Project Managers together with construction specialists to integrate Fire Safety into building designs.
  • Develop or review the suitability of Fire Strategy documents.
  • Develop or review the suitability of complex Fire Risk Assessments.
  • Evaluate current Fire Safety interventions and recommend improvements where necessary
  • When required, act as a Trusts representative in liaison with Fire and Rescue Services and other enforcing bodies
Qualifications

Person Specification – essential

  • Level 4 qualification in Fire Safety
  • Minimum of 3 years providing Fire Safety Consultancy or equivalent role
  • A demonstratable knowledge of Fire Safety regulations and guidance
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and an ability to interpret complex plans/designs
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent report writing ability
  • Ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel
  • Able to engage with all levels of NHS Management
  • Experience of developing reports for Board Level discussion

Person specification – desirable

  • Undergraduate degree in relevant subject
  • Local authority or other institution Fire Safety experience
  • Registered with The Institution of Fire Safety Managers, Tiered Fire Risk Assessors Register (TFRAR) or the IFE Fire Risk Assessors Register
  • Member of Institution of Fire Engineers, National Association of Healthcare Fire Officers
